A. Lewis Long Memorial Endowment

The A. Lewis Long Memorial Endowment was established in 1990. Interest from the endowment provides scholarships to two United High School graduating seniors with the highest GPA who will be attending Carl Sandburg College.


Ackerman & Fagan Memorial Scholarship

Ackerman & Fagan Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students from West Central High School with preference given to students from Biggsville Illinois.

AHS Half Century Club Scholarship

The AHS Half Century Club Scholarship is available to Sandburg students who graduated from Abingdon-Avon High School. Students are required to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA during their time at Sandburg.


Albert & Anna Mae Johnson Endowment

Albert & Anna Mae Johnson Endowment was established by the Johnsons, their friends, and businesses in the Carthage area. The interest from this endowment provides a scholarship for a student from Hancock County.


Alta M. Weir Memorial Endowment

The Alta M. Weir Memorial Endowment was established in 1983. The interest from this endowment is used to assist a student enrolled at Carl Sandburg College.


Alvin Kalin Scholarship

Alvin Kalin Scholarship will provide assistance to a student from Mercer, Knox, or Henry Counties who is enrolled in a vocational program. Preference is given to an individual who is a member of the Lutheran Church.


American Legion / Ralph Noble Post #285 Endowment

American Legion / Ralph Noble Post #285 Endowment provides scholarship funds to a child of a veteran.


Ann Asplund Discover Scholarship

The Ann Asplund Discover Scholarship is for non-traditional students. Students must be over the age of 24 to apply. Filing FAFSA is required. $1500 scholarships are available for full-time students and prorated for 1/2 or 1/4 time students.

This scholarship is awarded through the Carl Sandburg College Foundation.


Ann Rhykerd Asplund Endowment

Ann Rhykerd Asplund Endowment will provide scholarships for nursing students. Applicants must be full-time second-year students from Knox County. Preference will be given to Galesburg High School graduates. In addition, they must have a 3.0 GPA and have demonstrated financial need.


Anne Rowe Nursing Endowment Scholarship

The Anne Rowe Nursing Endowment Scholarship will be awarded to a second-year nursing student who has family responsibilities and who has proven financial need.


Betty Lou and Eugene Holt Scholarship

The Betty Lou and Eugene Holt Scholarship was established in 2019 in support of nursing students attending Sandburg. Candidates must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Financial need is a factor. 


Brad Johnson Memorial Scholarship

Brad Johnson Memorial Scholarship -- recipient must be a resident of Fulton Henderson Knox or Warren Counties and must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to a student who is a member of or has an immediate family member of the Western Illinois Builders Association.


Brian Lauerman Memorial Endowment

The Brian Lauerman Memorial Endowment provides scholarship aid to students from Knox and Warren Counties who are enrolled in one or more music classes.


Carl Sandburg Prize

The Carl Sandburg Prize is given annually by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association to a full-time or part-time student at Carl Sandburg College in honor of Galesburg's most famous son, Carl Sandburg...3-time Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and author. He believed that "Nothing happens unless first, we dream." This Prize is given to facilitate others' dreams. 
 
Sandburg was world-renowned as a social activist, championing the rights of children, racial equality, fair treatment and pay for laborers, women's right to vote, and the value of education. The Prize is one-time only and is not renewable. Students who are degree-seeking (Associates), as well as non-degree seeking (Program), are eligible for the Prize. The award may be applied to academic or non-academic expenses.



Catherine Club Endowment

Catherine Club Endowment established by the Catherine Club Board provides scholarships for females residing in Knox County.


Cecelia Landon Memorial Scholarship

Cecelia Landon was a non-traditional student attending Carl Sandburg College. At the very young age of just 38 years old, Cecelia unexpectedly became a widow. With three small children to take care of on her own, she decided to make a career out of her work at Sandburg. This scholarship will be awarded to students in a healthcare-related program of study (nursing Allied Health Mortuary Science etc.) The recipient must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and can be either full or part-time. Preference will be given to non-traditional students who are from Abingdon Avon or St. Augustine.
 


Centel Endowment

Centel Endowment established in 1982 provides an academic scholarship for a graduating area high school senior wishing to attend Sandburg.


Charles and Louetta Foster Vocational Endowment

The Charles and Louetta Foster Vocational Endowment was created in 2019 by Steve and Mike Foster in memory of their parents Charlie and Lou. This scholarship will go to a student who has lived in the Carl Sandburg College District #518 for five or more years. Qualified students must be freshmen, enrolled in a vocational program, and maintain a 2.0 GPA. 
 


Charlotte Swanson Nursing Scholarship

The Charlotte Swanson Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to a student in the nursing field with a 2.0 GPA or above. 


Clevenger-Anderson Nursing Scholarship

The Clevenger-Anderson Nursing Scholarship was established in memory of Newell & Elsie Anderson and Bill & Bea Clevenger. The scholarship will be awarded to a non-traditional nursing student with a 2.0-3.2 GPA. Preference will be given to a student who is a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Altona and/or an employee of the Marigold Health Care Center.


Crist Endowment

Crist Endowment established in 2001 by Carl Sandburg College honors the College's fourth president Don and his wife Mary Fran for their commitment to education. The endowment will provide scholarships for education majors.


Dan Adair Memorial Scholarship

The Dan Adair Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student who is majoring in music agriculture or education. Financial need is not a factor but applicants must have a 2.0 GPA.


David Wolbers Scholarship

The David Wolbers Scholarship established in 2020 by the Wolbers family will be awarded to a full-time Criminal Justice student from Warren or Knox County who has maintained a 2.5 GPA. Financial need is a factor.


Dean Wolbers Scholarship

The Dean Wolbers Scholarship established in 2004 by the Warren County/Monmouth Auxiliary Police Corps will be awarded to a full-time Criminal Justice student from Warren County who has maintained a 2.5 GPA. Financial need is a factor.


Dell Incorporated Endowment

Dell Incorporated Endowment will provide scholarships for Computer Information Systems students.


DerbyTech Endowment

DerbyTech Endowment will be awarded to a full or part-time Sandburg student.


Dick Blick Art Materials Scholarship

The Dick Blick Art Materials Employee Scholarship will be awarded to a current Dick Blick associate. The applicant can be a full or part-time student. Financial need is a factor. The applicant must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.


Donald & Roberta Reeder Endowment

Donald & Roberta Reeder Endowment will be awarded to a full-time student with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need is a factor. This award is open to any course of study.


Doris Plumb Endowment

The Doris Plumb Endowment was established in 1982 from estate funds. Income from the endowment fund provides scholarships and assistance to residents of Hancock County Illinois attending Carl Sandburg College at any of its attendance centers.


Dorothea E. Richardson Scholarship

The Dorothea Richardson Endowment established in 2003 provides this scholarship to students majoring in Education.


Dr. Charles French/French Funeral Home Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a second-year Mortuary Science student. The recipient must demonstrate financial need, exhibit leadership abilities, have a positive attitude toward the funeral service profession, and take an active role within his or her community.


Dr. James Kutkat Memorial Scholarship

Dr. James Kutkat Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Williamsfield High School graduating senior.

Dr. R. C. Westergren Memorial Endowment

The Dr. R. C. Westergren Memorial Endowment was established in 2019 by Dr. Westergren's loving wife Dolores "Dee" Westergren. Before his death in 2016, Dr. Westergren was a board member for the Carl Sandburg College School of Dental Hygiene. He would often get his teeth cleaned from students in the program, but would not tell him that he was a Dentist. To honor his dedication to the dental field, this scholarship will be used to support Dental Hygiene students. Qualified students must have a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students who live in Galesburg as well as those who have Christian values.  


Dual Credit Success Scholarship

Offered to students who participated in Dual Credit during high school. To be eligible for the scholarship, students are required to complete at least six dual credit hours, complete the FAFSA, have a grade point average at Sandburg of 2.0 or higher, and complete the DC Success Scholarship application. The college selects and awards these students to promote enrollment following high school. Awards are $1,500 for the first year of full-time enrollment following high school graduation. 


Elks Lodge of Galesburg / Clem Root Memorial Endowment

Elks Lodge of Galesburg / Clem Root Memorial Endowment will be awarded to a student from the northern portion of the Sandburg district preferably a relative of an Elks Lodge member.


Ethel M. Donaldson Endowment

Ethel M. Donaldson Trust provides scholarships to students in the nursing program.


Ethel Yetter Memorial Endowment Scholarship

The Ethel Yetter Memorial Endowment Scholarship was established in 1988 through a bequest from Ethel Yetter's estate. The interest from this endowment is used to provide scholarships for Hancock County residents.


F&M Bank Scholarship

The F&M Bank Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is a Knox County high school senior with at least a 3.0 GPA who plans to pursue a career in math education or teaching fields.


First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust Endowment

First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust Endowment provides an academic scholarship for a graduating senior from the Carl Sandburg College district with a minimum 3.0 GPA.


First Midwest Community Investment Scholarship

First Midwest Bank will award two scholarships to Sandburg students with a household income of $46800 or less and reside in Knox, LaSalle, or Rock Island County Illinois. Preference will be given to first-generation college students.


Frances Dianne Bailey Memorial Scholarship

Frances Dianne Bailey Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating Knox County high school senior with a GPA of 3.0 or above. The recipient must demonstrate a Christian commitment to their world.


Future Face of Nursing

The Future Face of Nursing Scholarship was started in 2021 by recent graduate, Jessica Houdyshell, in memory of John and Jennifer Houdyshell. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving out-of-district student pursuing a degree in nursing. Someone who “deserves a little help and sunshine”. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and have financial need.



Galesburg Police Benevolent & Protective Association/Bill Herrin Memorial Criminal Justice Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time second-year student in the Criminal Justice program. Student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.


Galesburg Promise

Galesburg Promise is built on the belief that education is the key to regional vitality and economic development. It was established by the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce and offers an incentive for students to graduate from high school and an opportunity for post-secondary education to increase the pool of college graduates who can be gainfully employed in Galesburg and the surrounding area. Galesburg Promise will pay up to 16 credits of tuition per semester up to a maximum of 64 credits for post-secondary education that will result in a degree or certificate from Carl Sandburg College. It is a last-dollar grant which means that the student must apply for federal and state financial aid first. In addition to this, students must apply for at least two additional scholarships. Galesburg Promise will provide the remainder of the cost of tuition after other financial aid according to an arranged percentage based on the number of years of attendance in Galesburg District #205. The 2.0 GPA requirement only begins after their first term with Sandburg. The high school GPA has no bearing on eligibility. Students must apply to the Galesburg Promise each year.

 


George & Pearl Palling Trust Scholarship

The George & Pearl Palling Trust Scholarship provides scholarships for needy and worthy Sandburg students.


Gladys Grossman Memorial Endowment

Gladys Grossman Memorial Endowment will provide a scholarship to a student taking accounting/business classes with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must be full-time students.


Goldie McKelvey Memorial Nursing Scholarship

The Galesburg Cottage Hospital Alumni Association established the Goldie McKelvey Memorial Nursing Scholarship in 2011 in memory of one of their alumnae members - Goldie McKelvey. Goldie was a 1939 graduate of Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing. This scholarship will be awarded to a second-year nursing student who lives in either Knox or Warren County and has a GPA of 3.0 or higher.


Guy L. Vitale Jr. Scholarship

Andrea Vitale established the Guy L. Vitale Jr. Scholarship in 2016 in honor of her late husband, Guy L. Vitale Jr. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. Financial need is also a factor. 


Hayden Creek Ranch Endowment

The Hayden Creek Ranch Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to second-year students with demonstrated financial need, who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. 


Huston-Reeves Scholarship

Huston-Reeves Scholarship will be awarded to a full or part-time Carl Sandburg College student.


ICCSF Health Trust Scholarship

The ICCSF Health Trust Scholarship (formerly known as the Marilyn Casey Scholarship) is offered by the Illinois Community College System Foundation to a student enrolled in a health-related field who has a minimum 2.0 GPA. Financial need is a factor. 


ICCSF Healthcare Scholarship

The ICCSF Healthcare Scholarship (formerly known as the Illinois Health Improvement Association Scholarship) is offered by the Illinois Community College System Foundation to students enrolled in a Healthcare program.


Irene Donaldson Landis Nursing Scholarship

The Irene Donaldson Landis Nursing Scholarship established in 2004 will provide scholarships to full-time first or second-year Associate Degree nursing students. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA and financial needs will be considered if candidates are equally qualified.


Jagannathan Charitable Trust Endowment

Jagannathan Charitable Trust Endowment was established in memory of Subbia Goundar Jagannathan Sr. Funds from the endowment will provide scholarships for students enrolled in a diagnostic imaging program. Applicants must be full-time students and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.


Jim & Joe Wiegand Memorial Endowment

The Jim & Joe Wiegand Memorial Endowment was established in 1992. Interest from this endowment is used to assist students with financial needs who are enrolled in marketing/business courses. Preference is given to students that are married.


Joe Brechbiel Memorial Scholarship

Joe Brechbiel Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student from Warren County. If no one from Warren County applies then the award will be open to any Sandburg student. Applicant must be a full-time student in the Industrial or Business programs.


John A. Kraus Endowment

The John A. Kraus Endowment was established in John's honor. Candidates for the scholarship must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. They must also reside in the ROWVA school district (Rio, Oneida, Wataga, Victoria, Altona). Financial need is also a factor.


John and Louella Thurman Memorial Scholarship

The John and Louella Thurman Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time or part-time Sandburg student from Knox County for tuition fees and books. The Thurman Scholarship is open to all courses of study. Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Financial need is not a factor.


John M. Lewis Memorial Endowment

The John M. Lewis Memorial Endowment will be used to provide scholarships to students who have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above and are enrolled in business courses.


John W. (Jack) & Doris Kraus Scholarship

The John W. (Jack) & Doris Kraus Scholarship will award a scholarship to a ROWVA High School graduate with financial need who has maintained a 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to a first-generation college student who has demonstrated good attendance in high school.


Katie Stone Memorial Scholarship

The Stone Family Scholarship was started in 2021 to assist first-year Associate Degree Nursing students, who reside in Knox County, to help with educational expenses. The Stone family hopes this scholarship will help support an incoming nursing student with required program expenses. 


Kesavan Family Endowment

The Kesavan Family Endowment will be awarded to a full-time student in the Allied Health program. Students must have a 2.5 GPA with demonstrated financial need.


Kiwanis Club - Lyle Snyder Memorial Scholarship

The Lyle Snyder Memorial Scholarship funded by the Galesburg Noon Kiwanis Club will be awarded to a full-time Sandburg student who must be a Knox County resident and a graduate of a Knox County high school. The recipient must have a 2.0 GPA or higher, be active in community service, and have financial need.


Knox County DARE Scholarship

Knox County DARE Scholarship is available to graduates of the Knox County DARE program. Applicants must be enrolled at Carl Sandburg College as full-time students and have a GPA of 2.5 or above. Financial need is a factor and preference will be given to drug and alcohol-free students.


Knoxville American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship

The Knoxville American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship was established in 2021. This scholarship is intended for students residing in the Knoxville School District. The Auxiliary would like to assist a student wishing to further their education whether it be in a two-year degree or a certificate program. Preference will be given to a veteran or student whose parent or grandparent is a veteran.



Kody Cares Firefighter and EMT Scholarship

The Kody Cares Firefighter/EMT Annual Scholarship is the first of its kind to be offered at Carl Sandburg College. It was established in 2021 in memory of Dakota “Kody” Taylor by his parents Jennifer and Joe Taylor and his sister Abbey Taylor.

Kody was a volunteer firefighter and was enrolled in the Carl Sandburg EMT Program when he was killed in an accident. Kody from a young age knew that becoming a firefighter and helping others was his path and passion in life. The Kody Cares Firefighter/EMT Scholarship is available to returning or continuing students who also have a passion to pursue a Firefighter/EMT program of study.




Lakshmi & Subramaniam Scholarship

Lakshmi and Subramaniam Scholarship will be awarded to a non-traditional student enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. The recipient must be a full-time student residing in Knox County with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need is also a factor.


Larry & Regine Benne Scholarship

Larry & Regine Benne established the Larry & Regine Benne Scholarship in 2016. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and reside in the Sandburg District. Preference will be given to a veteran enrolled in an Associate in Applied Science degree program or a certificate program. The second priority will be given to a veteran obtaining an Associate in Art or an Associate in Science degree. 


Laxmibai Deoras Memorial Endowment

Laxmibai Deoras Memorial Endowment will be awarded to a Knox County resident with family responsibilities and financial needs.


Lions Club Endowment

The Galesburg Lions Club Endowment was established in 2000 in honor of Lion Judge William K. Richardson. The interest from the endowment will provide scholarships for Knox County residents with vision or hearing impairments. Preference will be given to Galesburg residents. If no vision or hearing impaired students are eligible students with other disabilities will be considered.


Lou & Wilma Gamage Memorial Scholarship

Lou & Wilma Gamage Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Practical Nursing student with demonstrated financial need.


Louise Swanson Nursing Scholarship

The Louise Swanson Nursing Scholarship was established in 2016 by the Swanson Family. To meet the requirements of the scholarship, applicants must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in the RN program at Carl Sandburg College. The applicant must be a parent, who is attending school as a non-traditional student. Financial need is a factor.


Lucille McBride Endowment

The Lucille McBride Endowment will be awarded to a Sandburg student who is enrolled in at least one music course and attending full-time. Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.


Marguerite A. Vitale Memorial Endowment

The Marguerite A. Vitale Memorial Endowment was established by the late Guy Vitale of G&M Distributors in honor of his mother one of the founders of G&M Distributors Inc. of Galesburg. The interest from the endowment will be awarded to a female student with a 2.0 GPA or better.


Marie & Lloyd H. Bodinus Endowment

Marie & Lloyd H. Bodinus Endowment was established in 2000 to provide scholarships for nursing students. Applicants may be full-time or part-time students but must have maintained a 3.0 GPA. Financial needs will be considered only if the candidates are equally qualified.


Mark and Jann Beckham Scholarship

The Mark and Jann Beckham scholarship will assist continuing or returning Carl Sandburg College students who are seeking an associate's degree. The student must possess a 3.0 GPA and preference will be given to those who are enrolled full-time. 


Martha & Wilbur Capps Memorial Endowment

Martha & Wilbur Capps Memorial Endowment provides scholarships for students from Hancock County.


Mary Davis McKnight Memorial Endowment

The Mary Davis McKnight Memorial Endowment provides scholarships for Knox and Warren County students who are orphans (or have a deceased parent). Financial need is a factor and academic accomplishment is required.


Mary E. Sheriff Endowment

Mary E. Sheriff Endowment will be awarded to a full-time nursing student with a 2.5 GPA. Preference is given to Knox and Warren County residents. Financial need is also a factor.


Mary Mills Sutor Upward Bound Scholarship

The Mary Mills Sutor Upward Bound Scholarship was established in 2002 by Dr. D. Wayne and Mrs. (Darlene) Green in memory of Mrs. Green's younger sister Mary Mills Sutor. This award is available to graduates of the Sandburg Upward Bound program who have a 2.0 GPA or higher. Financial need is not a factor.


Mary Robson Scholarship

Mary Robson, a retired teacher at Carl Sandburg College established an endowment in 2004 to fund the Mary Robson Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to either a second-year or non-traditional student in the field of teacher education, nursing, or radiology technology. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate involvement in community service activities and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies as well as other related educational expenses. Financial need is a factor. 


Mateo & Delores Perez Scholarship

The Mateo & Delores Perez Scholarship will be awarded to a full or part-time student with a minimum 2.0 GPA. The student must be a Galesburg resident. Preference will be given to a student who has had at least 1 semester of high school Spanish or college-level Spanish. Consideration will be given to a student who is/was a member of a foreign language club, a member of a Hispanic organization, or a student who participated in a study abroad program. The recipient must have demonstrated participation in a vast variety of diverse community service activities.


Maxine Cadwell Benjamin Nursing Scholarship

Maxine Cadwell Benjamin Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students who are graduates of Williamsfield High School or another Knox County High School.


Men of Distinction (MOD) and Women of Character (WOC) Scholarship

The Men of Distinction (MOD) and Women of Character (WOC) Scholarship was established in 2017 by Naomi Law. The scholarship is available to students who are active members of MOD and WOC at Carl Sandburg College. Additionally, the student must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. Awards must be given to one male and one female. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in courses full-time. 


Merlyn D. Freeze Memorial Scholarship

Merlyn Freeze Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 to provide assistance to students taking classes directly related to the field of tool and die making. Applicants may be part-time students but must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.


Minich & Fagan Memorial Scholarship

The Minich & Fagan Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to students from Hancock County.

Mittendorf-Morgan Family Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time Mortuary Science student who has maintained a 3.0 GPA. Recipient must be a resident of Illinois south of Cook County and plan to practice in the State of Illinois upon graduation. Preference will be given to a second-year student and financial need is a factor.


Muriel & Harry Neave Memorial Endowment

The Muriel & Harry Neave Memorial Endowment will provide scholarships for Carl Sandburg College music majors.


Myrle Bates Scholarship

The Myrle Bates Scholarship established in 2008 in honor of the PEO Chapter AN will be awarded annually to a deserving female student. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.


Nancy Cooper Haines Memorial Scholarship

The Nancy Cooper Haines Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student in the ADN nursing program from Knox or Henry County. Preference will be given to a second-year student but if applicants do not qualify then the scholarship will be awarded to a first-year student. The recipient must be a single parent with demonstrated financial need.


Office Specialists Accounting/Business Scholarship

The Office Specialists Accounting/Business Scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in two or more Accounting/Business courses. The recipient must live in Knox or Warren County and have a minimum 2.0 GPA.


Office Specialists Scholarship

The Office Specialists Scholarship will be awarded to a student in the Computer Information Systems and/or the Computer Networking programs. The recipient must live in Knox or Warren County and have a minimum 2.0 GPA.


Optimist Club of Galesburg Scholarship

The Optimist Club of Galesburg Scholarship provides financial assistance to a deserving Knox County student attending Sandburg full-time. The recipient must be a recent Knox County high school or GED graduate.


Orlo E. & Lillian Greenquist Stevens Memorial Scholarship

The Orlo E. & Lillian Greenquist Stevens Memorial Scholarship established in memory of Orlo E. and Lillian Greenquist Stevens will be awarded to a full-time student who is a Galesburg resident majoring in Education. Preference will be given to a graduating high school student. Financial needs will be considered.


Paul & Rita Schmidt Memorial Endowment

The Paul & Rita Schmidt Memorial Endowment Scholarship will be awarded to a full or part-time student in the nursing program (RN or LPN). The recipient must have a minimum 2.0 GPA with demonstrated financial need.


Phil and Mary Good Scholarship

Phil and Mary Good have spent a passionate and dynamic lifetime together, making their hometown community of Kewanee, Illinois a better place for everyone. The success of their eponymous furniture store on Kewanee’s Main Street in the heart of downtown has shown that small, vibrant towns are a vital part of our American society.
This academic scholarship, open to all Carl Sandburg College students, pays homage to Phil and Mary’s can-do, entrepreneurial approach to all things in life. And, hopefully, serves as an inspiration to all those who strive for academic and personal excellence at Carl Sandburg College.



Presidential Scholarship

The full Presidential Scholarship is available for students with an ACT of 27 and above with a 3.75 GPA. The half Presidential Scholarship is available for students with an ACT of 25 and above with a 3.5 GPA. The award is contingent on the final high school transcript. Students must apply for admission to Carl Sandburg College and complete FAFSA. Scholarship awards will be on a first-come first-serve basis. High school seniors graduating from in-district high schools are eligible to apply.


PSADewberry Endowment

PSADewberry Endowment scholarship will be awarded to a full or part-time Sandburg Student.


Raritan State Bank Scholarship

The Raritan State Bank Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors with a 3.0 GPA or above. Applicants or the applicant's family must be a customer of the Raritan State Bank, Abingdon Banking Center, or Bushnell Banking Center. 


Rebecca Parke Chapter - National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Endowment

The Rebecca Parke Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Endowment scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student in the Education field. Preference will be given to a student planning to transfer to a four-year institution. Applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA and should be a resident of Knox County.


Rick and Lori Sundberg Endowment Scholarship

Rick and Lori Sundberg established this endowment in 2016. The scholarship can be used for all student educational expenses. The recipient must reside within the boundaries of Sandburg District 518. Financial need is a factor. The scholarship is open to all programs of study. The recipient must be a first-generation college student. The recipient may be either full-time or part-time and must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.


Robert Baird Woolsey Memorial Scholarship

The Robert Baird Woolsey Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a first or second-year student in the Mortuary Science Program who has maintained a 3.0 GPA.  The population of the recipient's hometown must be fewer than 50000 people.


Robert E. McLaughlin Honorary Endowment

The Robert McLaughlin Honorary Endowment will provide scholarship assistance to students from the Knox County area. The award is based on financial need and academic accomplishment.


Robert E. Sparling Annual Scholarship

The Robert E. Sparling Annual Scholarship is awarded to students earning their Associate in Fine Arts or Associate in Science Degree, Accounting, Business or Information Technology Certificate. A minimum of a 2.5 GPA  is required and the student must demonstrate financial need.


Robert Finch Memorial Endowment

Robert Finch Memorial Endowment will be awarded to a student with financial need who is participating in a Sandburg athletic program and has at least a 3.0 GPA.


Rolland Blair Memorial Nursing Fund

The Rolland Blair Memorial Nursing Fund award may be used towards the purchase of student textbooks including eBooks and other learning resources such as nursing applications used for classroom and clinical. The recipient must be a full-time LPN or RN student with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Preference will be given to a student who is employed at Seminary Manor and/or is a member of any Knox/Warren County Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).


Rotary Club (Noon) of Galesburg Scholarship

The Rotary Club (Noon) of Galesburg Scholarship is available to full-time second-year students who are residents of Knox County and who have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA.


Rotary Club (Sunrise) of Galesburg Scholarship

The Rotary Club (Sunrise) of Galesburg awards a scholarship to a Knox or Warren County student over 25 years of age returning to school full-time. Applicants must have completed at least 12 semester hours maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be pursuing an educational goal.


ROWVA General Endowment Scholarship

The ROWVA General Endowment Scholarship established in 1982 by ROWVA area friends and businesses provides funds to assist a ROWVA high school student with financial need to attend Sandburg.


Ruth E. Huseman Endowment

Ruth E. Huseman Endowment was established in 1999. Funds from the Huseman estate will provide scholarships for Sandburg nursing students.


Sally Lauerman Memorial Endowment

The Sally Lauerman Memorial Endowment provides scholarship aid to a female student from Knox County who is enrolled in one or more business courses. Financial need is not a factor.


Sam and Hepsi Sudhakar Family Scholarship Fund

The Sam & Hepsi Sudhakar Family Scholarship Fund is open to all programs of study for Sandburg students demonstrating financial need. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition fees books and other educational expenses. Eligible students must have a 3.0 GPA and be attending Sandburg full-time.


Sampson Promise

The Walter and Rose Sampson Promise is built on the belief that education is the key to achieving dreams and changing lives. It was established by a generous gift from Walter and Rose Sampson in collaboration with the Pattee Foundation, Twomey Foundation, United School District Foundation, Monmouth-Roseville Foundation, and many others.

Walter and Rose Sampson Promise will pay up to 16 credits of tuition per semester, up to a maximum of 64 credits for post-secondary education toward a degree or certificate from Carl Sandburg College. It is a last-dollar grant, which means that the student must apply for federal and state financial aid as well as other scholarships. The Walter and Rose Sampson Promise will provide the remainder of tuition after other financial aid, according to an arranged percentage based on the number of years of qualifying attendance. 


 


Sara Merkel Deal Scholarship

The Sara Merkel Deal Scholarship was established by Pete and Judy Boynton in memory of Judy's grandmother. This scholarship will be awarded to a Sandburg student with demonstrated financial need.


Sarah Peasley Scholarship

The Sarah Peasley Scholarship assists a Nursing student preferably from Henderson County.


Seamus and Ann Reilly Memorial Scholarship

The Seamus and Ann Reilly Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 by President, Dr. Seamus Reilly in honor of his late parents. Despite the fact that they did not have the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education, they were immensely committed to education and encouraged their children and grandchildren in their scholarly pursuits, and took great pride in their achievements. These scholarships support any student in any discipline who faces challenges in completing their studies due to financial constraints. It is hoped that recipients of these awards will contribute to the success of others at some point in the future.


Seminary Street Merchants' Association Endowment

The Seminary Street Merchants' Association Endowment will provide a scholarship to a Galesburg resident attending Carl Sandburg College.


The Bainter's Practical Nursing Scholarship

Stacy Bainter is a proud alumna and instructor at Carl Sandburg College. The Bainter Family gives generously to this scholarship each year. This scholarship will assist a part-time student in the Practical Nursing program. The student must possess a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. 


The James Hunt Endowment Sponsored by AKVO Energy America

The James Hunt Endowment Sponsored by AKVO Energy America will be awarded to a student with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Financial need is not a factor. Preference will be given to veterans who have been honorably discharged from military service or to employees of any of the Seminary Village facilities in Galesburg.


The Megan Worley Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2019 by beloved family and friends, the Megan Worley Memorial Scholarship will honor Megan's passion for nursing and care for others.  Megan graduated from Carl Sandburg College's Nursing Program in 2012 and was taken too soon from this world in 2018. To carry on Megan's memory, this scholarship will go to a deserving LPN student who has maintained a 3.5 GPA and demonstrates financial need. 


The Wendel and Elvira Hunigan Carl Sandburg College Scholarship

The Wendel and Elvira Hunigan Carl Sandburg College Scholarships provide financial assistance to African American students who desire to attend Carl Sandburg College. The scholarship is named for Professor Wendel Hunigan, a longtime instructor at Carl Sandburg College, and Elvira Hunigan, his wife and registered nurse, who also attended Carl Sandburg College during her nursing training. This scholarship also recognizes that a majority of community college students, especially students of color, do not begin their higher education directly out of high school. 


Theresa C. Clay Memorial Scholarship for Nursing

The Theresa C. Clay Memorial Scholarship for Nursing was established by Amanda J. Clay-Copes & CDR. J. A. Copes, USN, ret. in 2016 in honor of Theresa C. Clay, R.N., B.S.N., M.N.A. The scholarship will be available to students who have a minimum GPA of 3.0, reside within the boundaries of Sandburg District 518, are enrolled full-time, and are in the nursing program. Candidates must also be single parents.


Thompson Family Fine Arts Scholarship

The Thompson Family Fine Arts Scholarship will be awarded to a part-time or full-time student earning an Associate in Fine Arts degree. Students must have maintained a 2.0 GPA. Financial need is a factor.


Tim & Dee Mackey Family Endowment

The Mackey Family Endowment was established to assist a female Knox County high school senior with at least a 3.0 GPA to enter the math or education field.


Tri-City Building Trades Council Scholarship

The Tri-City Building Trades Council Scholarship will be awarded to a Carl Sandburg College student with preference given to family members of the Building Trades Council. 


TRiO Student Support Services Scholarship

Carl Sandburg College Foundation will award three scholarships for current participants in Carl Sandburg College TRiO Student Support Services. These funds are applied for tuition, fees, books, and other needs of students in the TRiO SSS program. 


Twomey Company Endowment Scholarship

The Twomey Company Endowment Scholarship established in 1993 will be awarded to students from Warren or Henderson County majoring in an agriculture-related field.


Upward Bound Math-Science Scholarship

The Upward Bound Math-Science Scholarship was established in 2021 by the Carl Sandburg College Foundation. Students must be a current UBMS student or a graduate of the UBMS program. Students must have a minimum of 2.0 GPA.



Verna M. Kellogg Memorial Endowment

Verna Kellogg Memorial Endowment was established in 1996. This scholarship will be awarded to a Hancock County resident with demonstrated financial need who is enrolled in the Practical Nursing program. If there are no candidates from Hancock County, then a student from another county will be awarded. 


Verne Dowers/Sunrise Rotary Scholarship

The Verne Dowers/Sunrise Rotary Scholarship is available to a Knox County student with a GPA of 2.5 or above who is enrolled in an industrial program at the Center for Manufacturing Excellence.


Walter Douglas "Doug" Buckert Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a second-year Mortuary Science student. The recipient must demonstrate qualities of leadership and civic-mindedness both in their community and the classroom and exemplify the qualities of servant leadership.


Wells Fargo Bank Endowment

The Wells Fargo Bank Endowment established in 1979 provides an academic scholarship for a student in the Sandburg District.


William & Sheila Roehlk Scholarship

The William & Sheila Roehlk Scholarship is an endowed scholarship available for a full-time Education major with a transfer option to a 4-year institution in the District that maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.
